Faith Steps

The other day I was thinking about all that God is doing at Thrive Church. We are truly blessed to be a part of this adventure. We have come to realize that Paul was so right when he said in Ephesians 3,

“Now glory be to God, who by his mighty power at work within us is able to do far more than we would ever dare to ask or even dream of—infinitely beyond our highest prayers, desires, thoughts, or hopes.”

I think back over the past year and so much has happened it is beyond imagination. Last year around this time we were searching for a permanent space we could call our own. It wasn’t long before we found a suitable space. It was a 24-hour gym that had gone out of business over a year earlier. The problem was the space had been padlocked by a bank for failure to pay their business loan. They had seized the equipment in the building and were holding it.

We prayed and believed that this was the space God was showing us. Over the next couple of months, we negotiated a lease on the building and got the bank to agree to remove the gym equipment from the building.

We hired a construction company to renovate the space and transform it from a gym into a church. Now here is where it gets amazing. I felt God saying that we shouldn’t get a loan for the construction but instead trust Him and pay cash. I stood before our small congregation at the time and said we are going to do this without getting a loan!

We initially thought we could do the construction for $20-40,000, which we had in our funds. When we met with the contractor and he presented the estimate, it was triple what we have thought. To do everything we wanted, it was going to cost over $120,000. I knew that God had said don’t get a loan and to trust Him, so we told the contractor to begin the work, even though we didn’t have the funds to cover the cost.

Over the next several months, literally, every time a payment was due, God would provide the exact amount we needed to make it. This happened three times!

We moved into the space the week after Easter. We believed that it would be enough room for us for at least two to three years. Boy were we wrong! We starting growing almost immediately and continued to grow even during the summer! Within a couple of months, we realized that in order to accommodate the folks God was sending to us, we were going to have to add a second service. In September we had a special service to share our goals for the coming year with the church. It was an amazing day – many people came and excitement filled the air. There was a real sense that God was going to show up and do something bigger than any of us!

The very next Sunday we started our two-service format and we are continuing to grow! People are finding Jesus! People are building new relationships and finding healing from past hurts. God is doing an amazing work and we are blessed more than we could have ever believed!

We have been on the ride of our lives! If God is giving you a vision for the future, I would say without any doubt, go for it! Step out in faith and trust Him! You won’t be sorry!!
